Why Paper Straws Won't Save the World

Marianne Talbot and Becky Brown will discuss the uses and abuses of arguments and the exercise of reason. They'll discuss how arguments work, what structure they take and how to make good arguments and avoid being distracted by bad ones. They will also consider the empirical evidence that suggests humans use reason far less often than might be assumed, and tools for ensuring that decisions and behaviour nonetheless reflect the values people care about.
