Tony Hope’s research interests are in the combination of ethical analysis and the collection of empirical data in order to examine practical issues in the care of patients and the delivery of medical services. He works particularly in the field of mental health ethics with particular interests in decision making and anorexia and ethical issues for families of people with dementia. Together with Mike Parker he is responsible for the courses in medical ethics and law for clinical medical students in the University of Oxford. He is Chairman of the Medical Humanities Strategy Committee at the Wellcome Trust and also Chairman of a new Working Party on the ethics of dementia set up by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics.
