Kate is a senior consultant focused on the intersection of Robotics & Autonomous Systems, the operationalisation of AI into UK Defence and AI Ethics. Her interest in Defence problem sets stems from her 10 years prior experience as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Air Force. This interest, background and focus sees her regularly work with the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratories and the UK Government's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
She holds an MEng (Hons) in Materials Engineering form Loughborough University where her undergraduate dissertation focussed on the mechanical properties of zirconia toughened nanoceramics, and her master's dissertation looked at material property enhancements to the design of diesel fuel pumps.
A Rising Leader Fellow with the UK Aspen Institute, she is involved in the moderation of panels and discussions with the organisation and enjoys publicly speaking and presenting, most recently of note at the World AI Canes Festival.
Kate is likely to focus her dissertation topic on the ethical considerations around Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems, while she finds the moral debates around these technology fascinating, she is keen to view the arguments through realities and practicalities of today and tomorrow's technology.
