Aksel Sterri is a PI and Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Philosophy at Oslo Metropolitan University and co-founder and Research Director at Langsikt, a think tank that uses philosophical insights to improve political decision-making on AI, biotechnology, global health, and animal welfare.
Aksel’s research interests are at the intersection of ethics, politics, and economics. He is particularly interested in how markets can be designed and regulated to achieve fairer and better outcomes, from allocating organs, vaccines, and drugs, to improving animal welfare and developing new technologies, including AI.
Aksel has previously been a Fulbright Visiting Fellow and Postdoctoral Researcher at Harvard’s Department of Government and a Junior Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Researcher in Oxford. Before his PhD in Philosophy, Aksel completed a BA and MA in Political Science. He also has a background as an analyst in the Norwegian Labour Party and a columnist and opinion page editor in Norway's second-biggest newspaper.
Aksel has written books on social democracy and euthanasia and has published several peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, including "The Ethics of Emergencies" in Philosophical Studies. His work is available at https://akselsterri.no/ and his Twitter handle is @AkselSterri.
