The Uehiro Oxford Institute invites expressions of interest from postdoctoral scholars who wish to apply for an ERC Starting Grant.
Deadline for Expressions of Interest: Friday 17 April 2026
The scheme offers grants of €1.5 million for a period of 5 years to fund extensive programmes of research, led by a single grant-holder, and normally involving a small team of postdoctoral researchers in delivering the project. Projects need to be ambitious and ground-breaking, with a strong justification for needing an extensive period of dedicated research. Projects with a sole Principle Investigator working alone are unlikely to demonstrate the scale of ambition the scheme is looking for.
- Eligibility: for researchers with up to 10 years of postdoctoral research experience. In this forthcoming call, researchers will be eligible to apply for a Starting Grant immediately after successfully defending their doctorate (rather than two years after), and be eligible to apply at any time within the following ten-year period (rather than within a limit of 7 years). Further information here.
- Duration: up to five years.
- How to apply: Details of how to submit an Expression of Interest are on the Divisional website here. Interested candidates should complete the Expression of Interest form and include a maximum 2-page CV and email it to the Uehiro Oxford Institute research office by the deadline.
- Deadline for Expressions of Interest: Friday 17 April 2026. Applicants selected by the Institute will be supported to submit applications to the call deadline in October 2026 (exact deadline tbc).
