ERC Synergy Grants

ERC Synergy Grants

The Uehiro Oxford Institute invites expressions of interest from postdoctoral scholars who wish to apply for an ERC Synergy Grant.

Deadline for Expressions of Interest: Friday 15 May

Synergy Grants provide support for researchers who want to address a research problem so ambitious that multiple research teams are required, working together.  A group of two to four Principal Investigators (PIs) apply to the scheme together. One PI can be based outside an EU member state or associated country.  Grant awards can be up to €10 million.  Grant projects for the coming round would be scheduled to start in mid-2028.

  • Eligibility: there are no restrictions in terms of a minimum number of years of postdoctoral research experience, but applicants should have outstanding track records for their career stage.
  • Duration: up to six years.
How to apply: any potential applicants should develop a two-page Expression of Interest outlining the project and the resources envisaged, and then have a conversation with the UOI Research Office about their proposal.  We encourage applicants to have these discussions as early as possible, but for reasons of equity, the UOI may not be able to confirm support until after the Expression of Interest deadline.
  • Expression of Interest deadline: Friday 17 April as the cut-off for sending an Expression of Interest to UOI Research Office. Applicants selected by the Institute will be supported to submit applications to the call deadline in November 2026 (exact date tbc).
