Project Description

Following an award by The British Academy to support the development of early career researchers in Brazil, a team of academics led by Dr Lisa Forsberg (University of Oxford), Dr Ben Davies (University of Sheffield), and Dr Isra Black (University College London) will host a programme of activities commencing in Brazil in August-September 2026, in collaboration with partners at Universidade de Caxias do Sul; Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos; Universidade Federal de Uberlândia; Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina; and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.

The schedule of workshops is as follows (exact dates within each week to be confirmed):

Workshop 1: Caxias do Sul + Unisinos, week beginning 24th August

Workshop 2: Florianopolis, week beginning 31st August

Workshop 3: Uberlândia, week beginning 7th September

Workshop 4: Rio de Janeiro, week beginning 14th September

The career development programme comprises:

Expert feedback on one English-language career-development output (e.g. a grant application or journal article).

A series of 3-day workshops in Brazil focused on writing for publication, writing funding applications, interdisciplinarity, and career knowhow.

Post-workshop mentoring.

We therefore invite submissions from early-career researchers and postgraduate research students working in philosophy, law, or at their intersection. Submissions should be sent to phil-law@uehiro.ox.ac.uk no later than 30 April 2026. Submissions should consist of a draft career-development output in English, such as a draft journal article or draft grant proposal, along with a short description of your background and how your draft relates to career aspirations (e.g. target journal for your article or target funder for your grant proposal). If you are unsure whether what you hope to submit is eligible, please get in touch at the above email address. Please specify which workshop you hope to attend.

We especially encourage applications from individuals in underrepresented groups and would be happy to have an online conversation with any potential applicant who identifies as such.

Applicants will be notified of selection for the workshops by 30 June 2026. Irrespective of selection, all applicants will receive written feedback on their career development output.
