María de Jesús Medina Arellano is a qualified lawyer and PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence. She is Professor and Researcher at the Institute of Legal Research at the National Autonomous University (UNAM). She coordinates the Diploma on Bioethics, Health and Biolaw. Her research interest focuses on the ethics and regulation of biotechnologies in developing countries, such as stem cell science, human genome editing and reproductive technologies. She conducts research and teaching on Global Health Ethics problems from a gender and legal critical studies perspectives. She is also interested on transference of research knowledge to key stakeholders (e.g., judges and policy makers) to tackle down problems of injustices and gender vias, in that order, she also collaborates with the federal judicial branch, as well as civil organisations and health institutions in Mexico and Latin America as a way of fostering the inclusion of the seminal bioethics issues that require attention from academics and governmental institutions.
