Each year we invite a world leader in the field of practical ethics to present a series of public lectures in Oxford, and to produce a book on the same topic. Past Uehiro lecturers have included Jeff McMahan, Peter Singer and Jonathan Glover. Further information

Uehiro Lectures 2005

Professor C.A.J. Coady of The University of Melbourne will deliver this year's Uehiro Lectures under the title 'Messy Morality' All are welcome. The first lecture will take place in Examination Schools beginning at 3.00pm on Tuesday 10th May. It will be followed by the H.L.A. Hart Memorial Lecture given by Professor Owen Fiss. Subsequent lectures will be in the Hall at St Cross College from 4.30 - 6.30 pm.

Professor Coady is Head of the Melbourne division of the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics. His publications on political ethics include 'Terrorism and innocence' Journal of Ethics 2004; 8(1):37-58 and a collection edited with Michael O'Keefe entitled 'Terrorisma nd Justice; Moral Argument in a Threatened World' (Melbourne University Press 2002).

 

Inaugural Uehiro Lectures in Practical Ethics 2004

The associated book, 'Choosing Children' by Jonathan Glover has now been published by OUP and is available form all good bookshops.

Professor Jonathan Glover delivered the inaugural Uehiro Lectures in Practical Ethics hosted by the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics. 

Professor Glover is Director of the Centre of Medical Law and Ethics at King's College London, and one of the world's most distinguished moral philosophers.
